VSHD launches “Misoprostol Day” in Ethiopia; Prime Minister’s Wife Attends
More than 800 female delegates attended Misoprostol Day, an innovative and successful information, education and communication campaign, at the annual Women’s Association meeting in the remote region of Tigray.  Ethiopia is the first country in the world to engage women’s groups on a large scale for share the knowledge of postpartum hemorrhage and misoprostol.

Nepal registers second misoprostol product for obstetric purposes in decisive step towards greater availability
The Nepali Department of Drug Administration has officially announced it has approved the registration of a second misoprostol product for obstetric purposes.

VSHD sponsored a misoprostol workshop at the widely attended 41st Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting of the Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria, November 14-17, 2007.  The theme of the Conference was “Intersectoral Collaboration for Promoting Maternal and Neonatal Health”, with the relevant sub-theme of “Postpartum Hemorrhage" (PPH).  At the close of the conference several key resolutions were made; resolution number 2 highlighted the importance of misoprostol to mitigate maternal mortality due to PPH.

Tanzania registers misoprostol for postpartum hemorrhage: Second country in Africa to approve this life-saving drug
The Tanzanian Food and Drug Authority officially announced today it has approved the registration of misoprostol for controlling postpartum hemorrhage (PPH), the life-threatening bleeding after childbirth attributed to the loss of approximately 5,250 mother's lives annually in Tanzania.

Frontline Health Extension Workers trained in misoprostol use throughout rural Ethiopia
As of May 2007, 128 health extension workers representing 97 rural health posts throughout four regions of the country have been trained in the administration of oral misoprostol tablets to women during the third stage of labor to prevent PPH in the Ministry of Health's project titled, “Misoprostol for the prevention of PPH at the community level.”

Nearly 250 health care providers attended trainings on the use of misoprostol for PPH in three regions of the country.
In May 2007, Venture Strategies, in collaboration with local partners, completed training workshops to 242 healthcare professionals on reducing maternal mortality and morbidity through Active Management of Third Stage of Labor (AMTSL) and the judicious use of misoprostol for the treatment of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) in three key regions of the country: Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.
